Each section uses multistage adaptive testing. Every student begins with a first module containing a broad mix of question difficulties. Performance in that module determines whether the second module follows a generally higher- or lower-difficulty path. Students may move forward and backward within the module they are currently taking, but they cannot return to the first module after it closes.
Adaptive does not mean the test changes after every answer. The routing occurs between the two modules in each section.
