  2. Choose Your Difficulty: Before starting, select your desired difficulty level:

    • Easy: Focuses on simple addition and subtraction using numbers from 1 to 10.
    • Medium: Introduces multiplication and division, using numbers from 1 to 5. Questions are designed to have integer answers.
    • Hard: Features a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with numbers up to 10. Division questions are still designed for integer answers.

Click on the [Easy], [Medium], or [Hard] button to select your difficulty. The selected difficulty button will change color to indicate your choice. “Easy” is selected by default when you first load the game.

  3. Start the Game: Once you’ve selected your difficulty, click the [Start Game] button to begin the quiz.

Playing the Game:

  1. Game Screen: After clicking “Start Game,” you’ll be taken to the game screen. Here’s what you’ll see:

    • Timer Bar (Top): A colored bar at the top of the game area will start decreasing from right to left. This shows you how much time you have left for the current question.
    • Problem Area: In the center, a math problem will be displayed (e.g., “5 + 3”, “8 × 2”).
    • Input Field: Below the problem, there’s a box with a question mark (“?”) inside. This is where you’ll type your answer.
    • Feedback Area: Below the input field, you’ll see messages like “Correct!” or “Incorrect.” after you answer.
    • Score Display: Shows your current score at the bottom (starts at “Score: 0”).
    • Game Progress: Indicates your current question number out of the total 10 questions (e.g., “Question 1/10”).
  2. Answer the Question:

    • Read the Math Problem: Carefully read the math problem presented in the problem area.
    • Calculate the Answer: Solve the math problem in your head or on paper if needed.
    • Type Your Answer: Click in the input field (the box with the “?” ) and type your numerical answer using your keyboard.
    • Press Enter: Once you’ve typed your answer, press the Enter key on your keyboard to submit your answer.
  3. Time Limit: You have 10 seconds to answer each question. The timer bar at the top visually represents the remaining time.

    • If you answer before time runs out: The game will check your answer immediately.
    • If time runs out: The game will automatically mark the question as incorrect, and you’ll see a “Time’s up!” message.
  4. Feedback and Scoring:

    • Correct Answer: If your answer is correct:
      • You’ll see a “Correct!” message in green.
      • Your score will increase by 1.
      • The score display will briefly animate.
    • Incorrect Answer or Time Out: If your answer is incorrect or time runs out:
      • The input field will briefly shake and turn red.
      • You’ll see an “Incorrect…” or “Time’s up!…” message in red, showing you the correct answer.
      • Your score will not increase.
  5. Next Question: After each question (whether you answered correctly or not), there will be a short pause, and then the game will automatically:

    • Present the next math problem.
    • Start the timer for the next question.
    • Advance the “Game Progress” counter.
  6. Game End: The game consists of a total of 10 questions. After you’ve attempted all 10 questions (or time runs out on the 10th question), the game will end.

Game Over Screen:

Once the game is over, you’ll be taken to the “Game Over!” screen. Here you will see:

  • “Game Over!” Heading
  • Final Score: Displayed prominently (e.g., “7/10”).
  • Statistics:
    • Correct answers: The total number of questions you answered correctly.
    • Average time: The average time you took to answer each question (in seconds).
    • Difficulty: The difficulty level you selected at the start of the game.

Playing Again:

To play the game again, click the [Play Again] button on the “Game Over!” screen. This will take you back to the start screen where you can choose a difficulty level and begin a new game.

Tips for Success:

  • Focus: Concentrate on the math problem as soon as it appears.
  • Quick Calculation: Practice mental math or have paper and pencil handy for faster calculations, especially for harder difficulties.
  • Time Management: Keep an eye on the timer bar to gauge how much time you have left. If you’re unsure of an answer, it might be better to guess quickly than to run out of time.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Play multiple times to improve your speed and accuracy!

Have fun challenging your math skills!
