ACT → SAT Calculator: FAQ
Where do these conversions come from? +
From the joint ACT/College Board 2018 concordance study, the official reference for comparing ACT and SAT scores. No newer joint tables have replaced it.
Is this valid for the digital SAT? +
Yes. The digital SAT uses the same 400–1600 scale and maintains comparable score meaning; College Board research shows digital scores function like paper scores.
What’s the difference between the single-point and the range? +
The single-point is the recommended comparable SAT total for an ACT composite. The range shows plausible equivalents around that point.
How precise is the conversion? +
Expect uncertainty. The official standard error is about ±80 SAT points when converting from ACT → SAT totals.
Does an ACT score “equal” an SAT score? +
No. Concordance matches scores by percentile rank across students who took both tests; it’s not a prediction of your score on the other test.
How should I use this tool for planning? +
Use it to compare options, not to predict outcomes. Base prep plans on your actual practice results and target ranges.
